Systems Thinking

Solving Big Challenges, Together.

Systems Thinking is a valuable tool for understanding and solving complex problems. It’s a perfect fit if:

  • The matter holds significant importance.

  • It's not a one-time hiccup but a persistent challenge.

  • The problem has history, a saga of attempts, and none succeeded.

Let's look at the big picture and see where we can start to leverage the system for varying degrees of change.

What is Systems Thinking?

A systemic approach is essential for tackling environmental, social, organisational and individual problems.

An example of a complex system is an organisation; different departments playing vital roles. People, processes, structures, technology and the environment are all forces at play in this system. Policy teams create the rules and guidelines, while sales bring in new business and marketing attracts customers. Finance manages the money, and customer support keeps everyone happy. Organisational problems such as ineffective communication, siloed departments, and lack of collaboration are common. They are complex and interconnected, they can’t be solved individually. Connections that worked then, might not work now.

To understand a complex system, we look at all its parts and how they work together. We figure out what makes the system tick and what makes it struggle. Then, we draw a picture of how everything connects.

Let's tackle your challenges together!

My Approach

Think of it as a journey, not a destination. Systems thinking helps you solve tough problems by looking at the big picture. There's no fixed start or end point; we can jump in anywhere and iteratively refine our approach. It's a continuous process of growth, improvement, and innovation.

Together we will follow a customised approach that looks like this:

  • Plan our journey together

  • Research, analyse & map what we know

  • Engage users and stakeholders to drive action

  • Design small but intelligent and targeted interventions to influence the system

  • Reflect and learn.

What you get

My aim is to provide a multifaceted approach that fosters a supportive environment:

  • Establishing a safe and inclusive learning environment with open communication, respectful dialogue, and a willingness to embrace different perspectives.

  • Engaging participants in hands-on activities, case studies, and simulations that allow them to apply systems thinking concepts to real-world problems.

  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration among participants.

  • Utilising visual tools like diagrams, models, and systems maps to represent and communicate systems thinking concepts.

  • Encouraging self-reflection and metacognition throughout the learning process.

  • Encouraging experimentation and adaptation.

  • Providing access to diverse resources including books, articles, online tools, and expert guidance.

Why me?

I create a nurturing space for individuals to dive into, experiment with, and build confidence in mastering the art of systems thinking.

I offer you a licence to operate differently, designing and delivering solutions with input from people and organisations working across the whole system. This means you will end up with answers that last longer, with better outcomes for the user and better returns on the money you invest.
